To get adoption-related information, you must apply through one of the Adoption Information Services below.
Adoption-related information includes:
- Information about the adopted person, their natural parents or relatives
- Records of adoptions.
The law requires you to have an interview with a counsellor before you can access adoption-related information. The Adoption Information Service you choose will provide this interview.
The Adoption Information Service can also refer you to a counsellor.

- Seeking copies of adoption-related information
- Helping locate and contact (where possible) family members separated by adoption
- Providing referrals to support and counselling services.

Adoption support services
Victorian Adoption Network for Information and Self Help (VANISH)
VANISH has regular support groups and can refer people affected by adoption to counsellors. VANISH can also help people search once they have received their adoption records.
